Casablanca is considered the business and economic center of Morocco. Located along the Atlantic Ocean, this city is the largest and the most historic city in Morocco.  Casablanca is a popular tourist destination because of its rich history as well as amazing beauty.

Casablanca inspires people from around the world because of its culture, history as well as natural beauty. Casablanca is most famous for its Hassan II mosque. Designed by the famous French architect Michel Pinseau, this mosque has a mesmerizing view of the Atlantic Ocean.  Tis mosque is one of its kind around the world, having the tallest 210 meters long minaret. It is the third largest mosque of the world and the largest mosque of North Africa both by capacity as well as area. The mosque can house 25,000 people inside and 80,000 people in its courtyard.

Another great attraction of Casablanca that is not to be missed is the classic architecture of this city. The city itself is as old as the 7th century. Established by Berbers, ruled by Arab Muslims, Almoravids, Merinids and then destroyed and built again by the Portugese in the 16th century and later on taken over by Spain, Portuguese, Arabs and finally French, the city has traces from all these cultures and religions.

The New Town in Casablanca was designed by French architect Henri Prost and is a very impressive tourist attraction. The area is populated with buildings and hotels that represent the Art Deco style and Hispano-Mauresque style architecture that will never fail to impress.

Casablanca’s largest public park which is called Parc de la Ligue Arabe is also a must see mostly because of the Casablanca Cathedral. Although no longer used, this Cathedral is a fine example of Mauresque architechture.

Another popular site in Casablanca is The Marabout de Sidi Abderrahmane or the tomb of Sidi Abderrhamane Thaalibi. It is located on a small island off the main coast of Casablanca. It is reachable only on days when the tide is low.

Casablanca is a particularly great place in terms of traditional Moroccan cuisine. So if you are around, you must try out the different places to eat.  Maarif district in Casablanca is the best place for trying out local specialties such as fuul sandwiches, shawarma, falafel and particularly different types of seafood. Roasted stuffed pigeon - another local specialty is a must try for every foreigner.

Once you are in Casablanca, you must visit the beach. Casablanca beach is the most beautiful and the cleanest beach around the world. Here you will find great ways to spend your nights as there are many night clubs along the shores of this beach. These clubs portray a clear contrast from culture of the city itself which seems pretty conservative to a tourist on normal days. You will be able to find pools, fine restaurants and even a few discos along these clubs where you can enjoy and unwind during your evenings. So when you are visiting Casablanca, make sure you don’t miss out on all these attractions of the city.
